Horse Racing: Betting Tips
If a person is planning to bet his hard earned cash at a horse racing track, there should be a few things he takes into consideration before any money is exchanged. Keeping these simple tips in mind will help a person to make a more informed decision before placing a bet. Although following these tips will not ensure success, they will ensure that the person is more educated and informed about things that could potentially influence a win or a loss at a horse racing track.
Do Some Research
The best thing a bettor can do for himself before wagering on a particular horse is to do some research. Blindly betting on a horse just because the name sounds good doesn’t do anyone any good in the long run –unless the bettor gets extremely lucky. Most horses have been participating in the races for quite some time if the bettor is wagering at an established track. It is a good idea, then, to look back on the horse’s previous track performances. The bettor will want to examine the horse’s overall performance, as well as his performance on that particular track if he has run there before. Sometimes, horses will perform much differently on one track than they will another.
The horse’s performance may also largely depend on weather conditions. Surprisingly enough, some horses thrive on racing on a wet, muddy track, while others tend to go more slowly or be pulled from the race all together. Other horses run much better at one track as compared to another, as some races may be longer or shorter than others. Check on the overall record for most horses who have run at the track to determine if there is a trend for the horses to run more quickly or slowly at that particular track.
Also, check out the horse’s jockey. How much weight is he carrying? Has the jockey ridden that horse before, and if so, how many times? Have the two been successful together? What is the horse’s age, breeding, and characteristics? While these may seem like nitpicky things to consider, they may all play a factor in determining a horse’s overall potential for winning – although things can change with every race. These are just a few tips to consider when betting at a track. |
